Every year, The Plains Community League brings neighbors together with events that celebrate generosity, creativity, and the joy of the season. This year’s activities highlight the strength of community bonds through imaginative displays, shared meals, and festive gatherings. From October’s creative “Scarecrow” displays to the upcoming Thanksgiving meal deliveries and winter holiday celebrations, there are many ways to join in and support one another.
Scarecrow Contest Winners!!!

October brought a burst of imagination to from residents and businesses in The Plains participating in our Scarecrow Contest. The winning displays were created by Michael Benjamin, Canopy Inc., and Girasole Restaurant. Their displays captured the spirit of the season with unique designs that delighted residents and visitors alike. The winners will receive a copy of Our Neighbor’s Table, the community cookbook that celebrates local flavors and shared meals.

This recognition honors artistic effort and also encourages community members to express themselves and connect through creative projects. The scarecrows became a symbol of neighborhood pride and a fun way to engage people of all ages. Next year we hope to see even more "Scarecrows" popping up throughout the town.
Providing Thanksgiving Meals to Families in Need

Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on gratitude and share with others. This year, The Plains Community League will provide Thanksgiving meal groceries to over 40 families in the area. Each family has chosen between a traditional or Latino-themed menu, reflecting the diverse tastes and cultures within our community.
Volunteers are invited to help pack and deliver these groceries on Sunday, November 23rd. The gathering point is the John Page Turner Community House at 6473 Main Street, starting at 12:30 pm. This effort ensures that families can enjoy a warm, festive meal even if they face challenges during the holiday season.
