Rain or Shine, Community Shines at A Day in The Plains

Friends, families, and volunteers gathered to celebrate small-town life in The Plains, Virginia, on October 3rd. Despite a change in plans that moved much of the event indoors, the day was filled with laughter, excitement, and community spirit.
Children and families enjoyed unicorn hugs, pumpkin decorating, Hilt’s face painting, children's games, Brennans balloon artistry, a lemonade stand, a delicious bake sale, cotton candy, popcorn, House of Dogs, and our Scarecrow Contest. While the event was originally planned as an outdoor celebration, activities were successfully moved inside the John Page Turner House, onto the porch, and beneath canopies. The weather may have changed our location, but it certainly did not dampen the enthusiasm of the children, neighbors, and volunteers who came out to celebrate.
This event would not have been possible without the incredible generosity of our community. We are deeply grateful to our many volunteers, sponsors, and donors. While we cannot recognize everyone individually, we would like to extend special thanks to:
· Baileywycke Antiques for donating 50 pumpkins
· The Plains Market for donating bags of ice
· Our TPCL tutoring students' families, along with many neighbors, who provided fresh baked goods for the bake sale
· Bistro @ The Porch for offering FREE children's meals throughout the day
· Zig Zag Crafts and Gallery for providing a community project of painting a mural
Wakefield School students for preparing the grounds and making signs
Thanks to the generous financial support of our donors, we were also able to provide the unicorn experience, balloon artist, face painter, House of Dogs, and a stage for our musicians.

The fun isn't over yet! The Scarecrow Contest opened for online voting on the morning of October 3rd, and voting will remain open until midnight on October 10th. To vote, simply scan the QR code posted on Facebook or our community bulletin board, or visit our website and click the Vote button.
Thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, donated, and helped make A Day in the Plains such a memorable celebration of community. We look forward to seeing you again next year!
