Despite a terrible heat wave our campers have been very busy.
The Town of The Plains and surrounding community share so much with our campers! This summer the campers have penpals and a fun errand is walking to The Plains Post Office to check our PO Box and to mail letters.
We were fortunate to have staff from the Oak Springs Garden Foundation visit our TPCL Camp. Campers had fun creating artwork reflecting the flora and fauna of gardens and nature. Can you recognize the American Sign Language for "Butterfly" in our group photo?
We continued traveling the world by visiting Sweden. Campers researched the country and then shared the information they learned through group reports. Campers recorded the facts in their Passports.
In our ASL class we practiced our fingerspelling and created our own ASL Alphabet books by binding copies of our illustrated letters/words. Then we practiced signing/singing the ABC song.
The Fauquier County Sheriff's Department brought drones, K-9 officers and bike patrollers to show the campers the tools they use to keep us safe. We apologize if the sight of the Sheriff's and their equipment caused a few calls to our Town Mayor to ask if there was a problem in town!
David Newquist, The Plains' gifted potter, came to the community house to help campers create their own clay creations.
We were so pleased to return to the Stuart Street Atelier where award-winning artist, Sue Braswell, led the campers through fascinating discussions about the world of art.
We were SO GRATEFUL to the Fenwick Family for opening their private, shaded swimming pool to our campers for some relief from the unrelenting heat .
All of these activities have been provided free of charge by our wonderful neighbors and businesses. We also want to thank 2Kyles, our next door neighbor for providing a BBQ lunch for our Sheriff's visit and ongoing donation of snacks for our campers. You're the best!
Stay tuned for our next Blog Post!!
