Dear Neighbor,

As you may know, the Town of The Plains won a Virginia Department of Historic Resources (DHR) grant to explore the development of a Preservation Plan. The most important step in this process is YOU (and our neighbors) sharing your opinion on what makes The Plains special, and what you believe is appropriate to preserve it. The more input we have, the better the process will reflect what the people of The Plains care most about.

To that end, there are two simple, important actions you can take that make a big difference:

1) Complete the online survey ASAP, before 11:59pm on June 19th: https://townoftheplainsvirginia.gov/survey

2) Share this email. If you live in The Plains, please share with other adults in your household; if you're a residential or commercial landlord in The Plains, please share with tenants; if you're a business owner in The Plains, please share with your employees. We would love to hear from everyone who lives and/or works in The Plains, along with those who own property but may not live in town.

If you would prefer to print and return the survey, please request one by replying to townoftheplainspreservation@gmail.com. Hard copy surveys can be deposited in the bright green drop box on the side counter of the town Post Office. Please note, we will be hand-delivering hard copy surveys to residents for whom we do not have an email address.

Following the conclusion of the survey period, we'll get the data back in the early Fall and will host another public meeting to share the findings.

The purpose of this process is not to make final decisions, but to have a clear understanding of our community’s values, goals, and priorities as we seek common ground for how best to protect and preserve what makes our town special.

Thank you for your time!
