Explore! 2026

Erica and her amazing team of counselors are hard at work preparing for this year’s free summer camp program for local lower-income children. This summer’s exciting theme is “Explore!”, inspired by the fascinating collection of National Geographic magazines in our library. Campers will spend the summer discovering the world around them while creating and publishing their very own “National Geographic” magazine!

Thanks to generous funding from the Northern Piedmont Community Foundation and our partnership with Wakefield School, campers will enjoy transportation to a wide variety of adventures and field trips. Planned activities include visits to Leesburg Animal Park, hiking at Bull Run Mountain, a Round Hill farm tour, twice-weekly swimming, Galaxy Strikes bowling, and much more.

Campers will also enjoy arts and crafts, pottery, science experiments, drama, research projects, reading time, and free play at the John Page Turner House and sports camp at nearby Wakefield School.

This year, we are excited to offer two four-week camp sessions, allowing us to welcome twice as many children as in previous years. Each session will serve 25 campers, along with our wonderful Counselors-in-Training which comes to over 55 youth served this summer.

We are also incredibly grateful to the local restaurants providing lunches for our campers. With so many fun activities planned, campers work up big appetites! Donations of snacks and drinks are always appreciated and help us provide an even better experience for the children throughout the summer. Fauquier Fish will provide Power Packs for hungry families to take home.

If YOU would like to support summer camp, here are some needed items that can be delivered to The Plains Community League, 6473 Main Street, The Plains, VA 20198.
