Summer Safari

ree

We hosted our last day of Tutoring on May 15th and the next day we began preparing the John Page Turner House for this year's Summer Safari Camp. This is the third summer of our free, full day camp for lower income children. We had over 70 children apply for our 25 openings! We are limited by space and funding or we would serve more. This year campers will learn about animals-including a trip to the National Zoo, keep photo journals of their hikes and activities, participate in gardening, photography, and journalism clubs, go to the pool twice a week, have music lessons, learn American Sign Language, and much more.

We have been very generously supported by several foundations to help cover the cost of staff salaries, facility upkeep, meals, and supplies. If you would like to help camp be successful this year:

  • You can help by dropping off old cameras, mini-recorders, and mason jars on the front porch of the John Page Turner Community House at 6473 Main Street in The Plains, VA. Give Erica a call at 540-253-2119 with any questions.
